  13. Readers of these newsgroups may recall that I hit a snag about three
  14. weeks ago with a "controllerless" modem, manufactured by the Askey Corp
  15. of Taiwan, and unusable under anything other than Windoze.

  17. Well the suppliers, having been unable to get supplies of their external
  18. BABT-approved V.34 modem, have now sent me another internal modem.  This
  19. time it's a 16-bit card, and as well as providing voice/fax/modem
  20. facilities, also incorporates a Soundblaster emulation and secondary IDE
  21. for a CD-ROM, as well as a games port.  Talk about ASAD-WBAWT!

  23. Anyway, it's been supplied with a CD-ROM of software made by IBM: not
  24. having a CD-ROM player at home, I haven't yet found whether this includes
  25. OS/2 drivers (which is what I really want).  The CD is identified as
  26. 96-G412151 Rev.1 AHE and copyright 1992.  The instruction manual for the
  27. modem (the publication number ASK9511A suggests to me that it too is a
  28. product of the Askey Corporation) describes installation under both DOS
  29. and Windows (but not OS/2) and refers to installation diskettes (which
  30. aren't here, but hopefully covered on the CD).

  32. Also supplied are three diskettes from Trio Information Systems,
  33. providing the fax support for Windoze.  There's no mention therein of use
  34. under OS/2, but I see that Trio have a support address in Sweden so I'm
  35. e-mailing them a copy of this posting as well.

  37. Could anyone who has information on this modem (which is identified on
  38. the box as a "Sound Card + Fax Modem S1428VH", and on the card itself as
  39. "P/N:85803109 S1428VH-M UK") please either post or e-mail me.  I'm
  40. especially interested in OS/2 drivers and support, but any and all
  41. information, and especially tales of woe, would be appreciated.
